Pamela Council is an exuberant, outspoken change agent. Born in The Hamptons and based in New York City, Council brings to light under-examined narratives using inventive material play in sculpture, installation, jokes, and performance.

 

Council has created commissions for, exhibited at, performed at, or presented work at: New Museum for Contemporary Art, United States Library of Congress, Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Studio Museum in Harlem, Williams College Museum of Art, African American Museum of Philadelphia, VOLTA, and MoCADA. Council has been an Artist-in-Residence at Bemis Center, Rush Arts, Mana Contemporary, Catwalk Artist Project, and Wassaic Project. A recipient of the 2017 Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters & Sculptors Grant and the 2018 Rema Hort Mann Community Fund Grant, Council holds a BA from Williams College and an MFA from Columbia University.
